The editor and publisher of the Southern Highland Fling moved to the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, Australia in 1997. It was an instant ‘love affair’ with the region. After a successful interior design career in Sydney – which included major projects for State Rail, and overseas projects for Caltex Australia - May worked for the local media in Bowral, working as a social photographer and journalist for The Southern Highland News including writing ‘The Visitors Guide’, and writing for HighLife magazine as well as writing and editing two wedding magazines for them.
A self-confessed ‘print media junkie’, May decided to put her two loves - print media and the Southern Highlands - together, and the first Southern Highland Fling was successfully published in 2003.
With a business background, she understands business, and genuinely enjoys promoting it. The mission statement for the ‘Fling’ is... “To promote with integrity the very best the Southern Highlands has to offer in a creative, attractive way.”
May believes that the Highlands is ‘Sydney’s playground’ and a stress-busting location for everyone.
Urban country at its finest!
Being a former State champion Irish dancer has led to a life-long love of dance - performing and teaching.
As well as currently teaching adult tap dancing classes in Sydney and the Highlands, May was also a local Government councillor with the Wingecarribee Shire Council, (the Council for the Southern Highlands) and chair of the Tulip Time Committee, The Heritage Committee & The Arts and Culture Board as well as being the alternate chair of The Economic Development Committee and a member of The Tourism Board. She is currently a committee member of the Southern Highlands Business Women’s Network, an effective voice for local women in business.
